But what made Microsoft change to this somewhat convoluted method, I wonder? Unfortunately we sit midway between developers and end users.

On the one hand we buy software from the developers, and on the other hand we sell on to end users, those who in turn often need support when things go wrong. If we don’t know the answer, we are back to the developer for an answer. Just as an example, for a few days we had been complaining about a Word Add-on erroring.

The developer could not replicate, so I suggested we Skype and share my screen. Well blow me down! It would not fail, so we “joked” about Skype fixing the problem.

Well it did not fix it. It fell over again as soon as I was out of Skype, so off went time stamped a screen shot to collect by bet’s winnings. One caveat: Unless something has changed with Office , Microsoft does not recommend using bit Office unless you have a specific requirement for it such as gigantic spreadsheets in Excel. I believe that recommendation has changed, There was a reference to the topic in a message sent to the NDA List. All I see in the DL is a comment that ” I assume when office comes out – 64bit will be the default version offered.

This particular setup is a new Lenovo carbon with windows 10 and office which I feel is mostly an Office setup which begs the questions did he get a subscription that actually installed the desktop versions of the apps the same way it normally would be if you owned your own media?
