Microsoft has officially released Windows 10 May Update for the public. Also known as version , the update has been available to Windows Insiders in the Slow and Release Preview rings for quite a few weeks. The Windows maker had said in April that the May Update will remain in the Release Preview ring for an increased amount of time to detect any issues before broader deployment.

The company has been trying to make up for the disaster that was the last Windows 10 October Update. However, with Windows 10 May Update, Microsoft didn’t only delay the public release but is also introducing controls to help users avoid surprise upgrades to the latest version.

All users will now have the ability to explicitly choose if they want to update their device and can also pause updates for up to 35 days. More on that in this post. When a new update is available, Windows 10 will delete the files on the reserved storage automatically allowing updates to install successfully. The version you download with the media creation tool may be slightly different depending on any optional features it may download to be better compatible with your PC.

So you may be able to get away with a single-layer DVD still, but those days are numbered.
