The screen that will show is the screenshot that you provided which is in this article.

Kindly follow the steps under Back up the registry manually and then Create a restore point. Once you’re done manually back up your restore point, reset the Windows Update components using the command prompt.

You’ll find the steps on this link. Is there not a direct link to a screen telling us how to back up the registry manually? Having said that, we have at least two Major Cumulative WUs tomorrow or whenever, depending where we are in the queue. Per the continuation of the thread here, the OP and myself are still having the same problem.

I followed the links you gave me, entered all of the Windows update reset commands into command prompt which was a pain and it hasnt worked yet. I did notice, however, that during the process of entering the commands I got some errors stating that the binary file at the specified path does not exist or that some process of the command failed. That is just an eatimate however.

Thanks for unmarking the ‘answer’ – there have been problems all day with the Community Forums and my cursor has done whatever it wants to, hence I marked it as the answer by mistake. Second, the error message that the LCU failure can produce, “update isn’t applicable,” doesn’t make the root cause immediately apparent. As a result, having an LCU fail to install can be confusing and frustrating for the end user and IT admin alike, but can also hurt security compliance.

With the Windows Update experience where the SSU and LCU are deployed together to the device, the update stack automatically orchestrates the installation, so both are applied correctly. If you use management tools backed by WSUS, such as the Configuration Manager, you will have to select and deploy the monthly cumulative update. The latest SSU will automatically be applied correctly. If you acquire and apply Dynamic Update packages to existing Windows 10 images prior to deployment, the latest SSU will no longer be available as a separate package in the Microsoft Catalog.

While these changes are not yet live for any in-market version of Windows, we hope you are excited about what is coming. This announcement gives you plenty of time to prepare for the upcoming changes and deploy the September SSU and LCU broadly across your organization. This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates SSU makes sure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. These changes are needed for offline OS image serviced devices to make those devices compatible with future cumulative update packages where updates dated from March 22, to before May 10, were not installed.

To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends that you upgrade to a later version of Windows. To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website. Servicing stack updates SSUs make changes to how updates are installed and cannot be uninstalled from the device.
